Surrey named as top 'home office' hotspot

Surrey is the home office hotspot of England and Wales, according to a new survey.
Smart Growth Analytics looked at the number of home offices and the percentage of home offices as a proportion of all those in employment in an area.
And it found that Surrey has 27,000 home offices and almost five per cent of total area employment working in home offices. That compares with a national average of 5,000 and three per cent.
The top 25 was dominated by London, the South East and East of England, with Hampshire, Hertfordshire, Kent and Essex making up the rest of the top five. Camden (13th) was the highest ranked in London.
However, Devon, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire from the South West, Worcestershire and Staffordshire from the West Midlands and Northamptonshire from the East Midlands also made it into the top 25.
But North Yorkshire and Lancashire were the only representatives from Yorkshire and Humberside and the North West.
Jim Plunkett-Cole, principal analyst at Smart Growth Analytics, said: ?''The findings demonstrate the economic importance of home offices in regional economies across the country.
"They provide strong supportive evidence of a need for home office support across these areas in order to maximise their economic contribution. In particular, they demonstrate a need for higher speed broadband, 'virtual' business support services and networking."
