Britain's ideal home – at a less than ideal price

The nation's most desired home is a detached rural property with a large garden overlooking a beautiful landscape – if you have more than half a million to spend.
A survey by PrimeLocation.com found that despite 90 per cent of us living in cities, our ideal home is detached (for 57 per cent of us), in the countryside (33 per cent), has a large garden (58 per cent), has good views (64 per cent) and is near nice places to walk (44 per cent).
However, the website's Desirability Index says the most desired property will set you back £523,866, 139 per cent more than the average UK home.
Factors that home buyers said were less desirable includes being near a pub (26 per cent), being close to a gym or restaurant (11 per cent), having decent broadband (24 per cent) and a good mobile signal (11 per cent).
Meanwhile only 18 per cent of people said it was important for their home to be eco-friendly.
Nigel Lewis, property analyst at PrimeLocation.com, said: "Our research highlights the disparity between functional homes that people purchase because they meet basic needs such as proximity to work or number of bedrooms, and aspirational properties that most of us hope to afford as we move our way up the property ladder."
