Shelter reveals areas with highest eviction risk

People in living in London, Manchester, Slough and Peterborough are the most at risk of losing their home in England, according to new research from Shelter.
The homelessness charity put the risk of eviction in the four places at one in every 111 homes. The statistics are available from Shelter as an interactive map.
London has the highest rate of all, with the top 12 local authorities in the research all in the capital.
Outside London, there are clusters of high risk in the North West and the Midlands. Nottingham, Newcastle and Knowsley all have eviction rates of more than one and a half times the national average.
People living in urban areas are more likely to be at risk of losing their home but rural areas like West Lancashire and Bedford also have levels higher than the national average.
Overall, rates of possession claims are so high that someone is facing losing their home every two minutes.
Shelter chief executive Campbell Robb said: "Shelter research shows that a third of people are already struggling with their housing costs or falling behind on payments.
"In these unforgiving conditions, it only takes one thing – illness, job loss or relationship breakdown – to lead to things spiraling out of control and into homelessness."
