Trudie Styler hits back at Big Issue criticism

Film producer and multiple home owner Trudie Styler has defended her role as guest editor of The Big Issue.
When the role was revealed a few weeks ago, Styler was widely criticised in the media for what The Dail Mail called the cruel irony of someone who owns homes in London, the Lake District, Wiltshire, New York Malibu and Tuscany editing a magazine for homeless people.
But now, with her edition set to hit the streets this week, the multi-millionaire wife of rock star Sting has hit back in an interview with The Independent on Sunday.
She says she first met Anita and Gordon Roddick, the Body Shop entrepreneurs, who helped found the magazine, while doing philanthropic work in the Amazon. "Anita and Gordon are multi-homed people. And guess what? They founded The Big Issue."
And other guest editors have included Damien Hirst, David Cameron, Jamie Oliver and Richard Branson, who own several homes and an island but have not faced the same criticism.
Ms Styler says the bad publicity she gets acts as a deterrent. "I think it discourages people who have wealth. Wealthy people should be encouraged to be giving more and doing more and not getting rapped over their knuckles for trying to help."
Her edition of The Big Issue features Robert Downey Jnr, Archbishop Desmond Tutu and photos of vendors by Bryan Adams.
