The Homes and Communities Agency (the HCA) has confirmed funding for more than 3,000 homes as part of its affordable homes programme.
In the most valuable contract agreed so far, the Bloc partnership led by Great Places housing association, has secured £40 million to build 1,751 homes over the next four years in Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Lancashire, Merseyside and South Yorkshire.
Deborah McLaughlin, executive director North West at the HCA, said: "Our local teams have worked closely with Great Places over recent months to ensure that its programme brings the maximum benefit for local people. I now look forward to seeing work start on the ground and I'm sure that local people feel the same."
Meanwhile, the Wayfarer Partnership of associations has secured £20 million of funding to build almost 1,600 homes across the south of England. Some 1,300 will be built in Hampshire, 120 in Surrey, 70 in Berkshire together with other new schemes in Sussex, Wiltshire and Dorset.
The Wayfarer bid was led by Radian Housing Group and also includes First Wessex, Rosemary Simmons Memorial, Petersfield, Havant and Raven housing associations.
The HCA launched its £1.8 billion investment programme in February to deliver 80,000 affordable homes across England by 2015.
