New ‘community qualification’ launched by CIH

Housing organisations will now be able to reward tenants who perform valuable unpaid work with a ‘community qualification’.
The Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH)'s Active Learning for Residents (ALfR) programme has launched the new qualification to help boost the skills and influence of tenants and residents.
The Level 3 Award in Community Action in Housing enables residents who are actively engaged with their communities – those running community centres or on a tenant panel – to gain a qualification by accrediting skills they develop.
Sarah Webb, CIH chief executive, said: "I am proud that we are able to offer another qualification through the 'Active Learning for Residents' programme.
“The scheme rewards residents that engage with their communities – we need more tenants and residents to work closely with their landlords to make sure their homes and communities are great places to live."
The community qualification looks at how residents can be involved with a housing organisation and how this involvement relates to community needs and how individuals can contribute to meeting those needs, the CIH said.
