Footballer Jermain Defoe is trying to sell his six-bed Hertfordshire property in preparation for building a £4.5 million 'palace' in Chigwell.
His current home, on The Ridgeway in Cuffley, Potters Bar, boasts rooms of vast proportions (check out the photos below) including a master bedroom measuring 7.11m x 6.4m as well as a cinema room and gym with sauna and shower room.
It's on the market for £3.75 million (for more details, check it out on Zoopla).
But it's Defoe's next property that's really been causing a stir. The Evening Standard has reported that he has been granted planning permission to build a £4.5 million 'palace' in Chigwell, an Essex neighbourhood that already boasts such well-heeled residents as Lord Alan Sugar and Ronnie O'Sullivan.
According to documents seen by the Standard, Jermain Defoe plans to demolish the neo-Georgian house currently standing on the site and replace it with a 10,000sq ft mansion containing eight bedrooms, a nightclub, 'several' five-a-side football pitches, hair salon, treatment room, underground swimming pool, cards room, snug and giant outdoor hot tub.
Neighbours are apparently unimpressed, voicing concerns over what the potential nightclub-related disturbances could do to property prices.
The plans for the site were submitted in Defoe's mother's name and included a request for an 'ancilliary gatehouse dwelling'. They were approved on January 18.
