High streets in the UK must be planned based on their surroundings and the merits of their individual locations rather than by a general formula, a real estate services company has said.
Nick Diment, head of retail planning at CB Richard Ellis, said London is an example of where "one size doesn't fit all", emphasising the need not to plan by tick box but to look at and understand what drives a particular location.
"There are good examples of vital and vibrant high streets and mixes of use, but just because [it works in] one place doesn't automatically mean it will work somewhere else," he commented.
