Govt to reward communities for house building

Proposals to reward communities that build more houses in the UK are a step in the right direction for the country's property supply, the Home Builders Federation (HBF) has said.
Housing minister Grant Shapps said today (August 9th) that communities rewarded via the New Homes Bonus will be able to spend the cash on whatever they like, such as council tax discounts and new playground facilities.
Steve Turner, head of communications at the HBF, said it is crucial that the government provides local authorities with "full and complete" proposals as soon as possible to allow them to deliver increases in housing supply.
He added: "The last government obviously had a very different approach in terms of a top-down target-driven approach.
"The Conservatives are convinced that their localism proposals are going to deliver more homes over the term of the parliament."
Last month, a National Housing Federation report found that nearly 85,000 planned homes have been scrapped due to the government's decision to axe regional housing targets.
