His comments came after it emerged that London has been designated a Low Carbon Economic Area (LCEA) for energy-efficient buildings.
The capital has become the seventh area within the UK to be assigned a LCEA status, which is designed to promote energy-efficient constructions.
In the incipient stages, the programme will include a range of projects aligning nearly £90 million of funding already committed by the Regional Development Agencies.
Business minister Ian Lucas welcomed the decision, saying: "London will be a world-leading centre for energy efficient buildings, specialising in retrofitting activity.
"The variety of buildings across London means that there will be a wide range of highly exportable skills."
