A council in the south of England is on the hunt for new landlords, as it looks to tackle social housing waiting lists by offering private sector properties to tenants.
Brighton and Hove City Council is hoping to curb rocketing demand for rented accommodation by encouraging more people to become landlords.
In support of the scheme, private sector leasing (PSL) specialist Orchard and Shipman will run a special event next month, so that anyone with rental property or who is considering a move into letting can learn more about the benefits.
"PSL enables the council to provide homes to those in need of housing and enables us to secure long-term investments for our landlords, which is a healthy alternative to seasonal and student rentals," commented John Taylor, the company's chief executive.
The event, set to be held at the Preston Park Hotel in Brighton on December 8th 2010, is designed to offer advice and expertise on the potential benefits to would-be landlords who join the scheme.
A spokesperson for the council added: "The PSL scheme enables us to provide a prevention service working towards reducing housing waiting lists and homelessness throughout the city."
