Number of new homes built at record low

The number of new houses that were put on the market reached a new low during the past year, new figures show.
Only 128,680 properties became available during the last year due to a fall in the number of properties being built, statistics from Communities and Local Government reveal.
This is the lowest level since 2000 when records began and marks a 23 per cent reduction on the previous year.
Stewart Baseley, executive chairman of the Home Builders' Federation, spoke of how housing delivery, crucial to combating the housing crisis, is not increasing and has fallen in many areas.
"These figures reveal the extent of the housing supply problem and the need for real action now - cutting red tape and implementing incentives so we can build the homes the country needs," he said.
This news comes after the government announced they were slashing the housing budget by over 50 per cent, already reducing the number of new affordable home that will be built next year.
