Solar panels 'can add 5% to home's value'

Installing solar panels on a house can improve its value by as much as five per cent, homeowners have been told.
Michael Holmes, spokesperson for the National Home Improvement Show, said those who follow Prince Charles' example will also be able to generate up to £700 under the feed-in tariff scheme and slash around £100 from annual energy bills.
Clarence House recently confirmed that the building has been granted planning permission by Westminster City Council to install solar panels, ahead of the forthcoming Garden Party to Make a Difference event which will showcase a range of clean technologies people can add to their homes.
Mr Holmes added: "With many homeowners looking to add value to their home to combat falling house prices, retrofitting a home, like Prince Charles has done, can be considered the ultimate responsible home improvement."
However, he stressed that householders should not forget that they should also be making a concerted effort to reduce energy consumption by insulating their properties properly and having low energy appliances.
