Student accommodation costs rising

An increase in accommodation costs is putting the squeeze on students, who are already struggling with rising costs and financial pressures, an education charity has said.
Research from accommodationforstudents.com recently revealed that the average student rent now stands at £65.30, a full 4.3 per cent higher than it was last year.
The rate at which students' accommodation costs is rising is also on the up, with the previous years' increases at just 1.6 per cent and 1.7 per cent, adding up to a 25 per cent rise since 2004.
Jemma Samuels, programme director at BrightsideUNIAID, said part-time work is becoming more and more difficult for students to find, making any increase in costs even harder to bear.
"If students are concerned about money or the cost of university, then accommodation, which is one of the biggest costs, will by default be a major consideration," she went on to say.
