A new TV channel, Home, will be launched this Thursday as the first ever to be dedicated solely to homes.
Home will be broadcast on Sky Channel 246, Virgin TV 265, Top Up TV 26, and will include programmes such a Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, DIY SOS, Escape to the Country and Ground Force.
The channel has also commissioned new programmes, such as Gutted, Love the Place You're In and Fantasy Homes by the Sea. Home also released research this morning, which shows "fundamental new lifestyle trends" about the way we live in the UK.
The channel has coincided the launch on Thursday with the release of report by futurologist Marian Salzman on how we will live in the future.
Commenting on her findings, Ms Salzman said: "Identifying relevant trends is vital to making sense of what people are doing and why - and how we can influence them.
"Tracking trends over time enables me to forecast their staying power and their reach and determine how much they should affect human dialogues and consumerism. I view trendspotting as equal parts art and science."
Among the 40 trends found in the report were that garden sheds would become a space for living as family members search for somewhere to relax; mistrust in banks would lead people to stash their cash in mattresses (which will be designed to incorporate fireproof safes); 'Smart kitchens' will be able to propose menus, suggest recipes and measure the carbon footprint of cooking; and the nuclear family will "burst at the seams", with three generations under one roof.
Home channel head Clare Laycock, said: "It's easy to take our homes for granted but as these powerful trends demonstrate where we live is hugely impacted by events in the outside world.
"As a channel, Home gets right to the heart of the many needs our properties must fulfil and celebrates them in all their different guises."
