Scottish landlords join the NLA

The National Landlords Association (NLA), the leading trade body for landlords, has merged with the South of Scotland Private Landlords Association (SoSPLA).

This latest merger safeguards the interests of landlords in southern Scotland and furthers their ability to communicate with government at all levels, from local councils to the Scottish Parliament.

Jim Parker, chairman of the NLA Scotland, said: "We are absolutely delighted to welcome the South of Scotland Private Landlords Association into the NLA. As a result, we can provide a louder voice for landlords in the area, helping to raise the profile of the private-rented sector and the contribution it makes to the housing mix.

"Crucially, we will be looking to work ever more closely with local authorities in the region in order to ensure a fair balance between the needs of tenants and landlords."

The NLA is the leading independent national organisation for private residential landlords.

Jim Sharpe, founder member of SoSPLA, added: "The SoSPLA, formerly known as Wigtownshire Landlords Association, has been representing local landlords for over 15 years and was the first association in Scotland for private-residential landlords.

"However, it is now more important than ever for landlords all over the UK to come together in one unified voice. Not only does this mean increased benefits for our members but also a greater ability to influence public policy. We will be working hard to guarantee a healthy and growing sector while helping to avoid over-burdensome regulation for landlords.

"It is the beginning of a new chapter for landlords in Southern Scotland. And we very much look forward to working under the umbrella of the NLA as Scottish landlords come face-to-face with a wide range of issues, not least ensuring the re-registration of landlords in Scotland happens smoothly."
