Buyers seek green estate agents

New research has found homebuyers in the UK property market actively seek eco-friendly estate agents when purchasing a house.
According to findings from online property portal HotProperty.co.uk, some 69 per cent of buyers would prefer to deal with a 'green' estate agent.
The organisation also claims the research will act as a wake up call for estate agents, few of whom can presently claim to be ecologically-minded.
"Estate agents in general have large carbon footprints; most run several cars and throw away hundreds of 'for sale' signs each year," explained HotProperty managing director, Shawn Luetchens.
"Today's consumers are more concerned than ever before about whether companies are taking responsibility for their environmental impact.
"It is in agents' best interest, both environmentally and in a business sense, to become a green agent."
In response to the findings HotProperty has launched Green Agents - a no-hassle way for agents to balance and reduce their carbon footprint online.
Consumers will also be able to check the environmental credentials of their local estate agent at the organisations website.
The first official Green Agent to sign up was R House Estate Agency, which has offices in Devon and Cornwall.
"At R House Estate Agency we feel very strongly about doing our bit for the environment," area manager Tom Woodley commented.
"Becoming a green agent was an important step for us; we can now be confident that we are operating in an eco-friendly way and taking responsibility for our environmental impact.
"It also gives us a market edge; we are proud to be the first HotProperty green agent and hope others will follow in our footsteps."
