Homeowners in the UK are willing to pay a premium of £10,000 for a garden, research from Halifax Estate Agents detailed today.
Almost eight in ten people (78 per cent) are willing to pay extra for a property with a garden.
However, the British love of gardens varies across the country. Those in the capital and Yorkshire and the Humber are the least likely to seek a garden, with only seven in ten willing to pay more. In Wales and northern England this figure increases to 85 per cent and 87 per cent respectively.
"Our research shows that many of us will pay a premium for a property with a garden. Making the most of your homes outside space could add real value and maximise any sale price," said Colin Kemp, managing director of Halifax Estate Agents.
Married couples are also more likely to want a garden, with 84 per cent willing to pay a premium. The figure falls to 67 per cent among those that are single.
The same research reveals of those willing to pay more, eight per cent are willing to pay over £20,000 for a garden and four per cent are prepared to pay over £30,000.
