Safety first concern when buying a home

Security is the number-one priority of people buying a home, new figures reveal.
Research for The Homebuyer Show finds that eight out of nine people buying a home think good security is an essential factor in their decision to put an offer in.
In fact, security is more important to potential buyers than a property's number of rooms or price.
"The results of this survey confirm that safety in the home has become a major issue for the British public," said Nick Clark, managing director of The Homebuyer Show.
"The most effective step to take would be to get a state of the art security system fitted. However, ensuring your door has an approved mortice deadlock, windows are double glazed, and even adding motion sensitive lights to the outside of your house can be just as effective in deterring potential burglars.
"If you want to sell your home quickly, upgrading your security systems will be a major help."
The least important factors, according to buyers, are the condition of a home's decoration and provision for modern gadgets. Buyers also display little concern for the reputation or proximity of schools in the area.
The Homebuyer Show will be in London's ExCeL Centre from Friday March 17th to Sunday March 19th, for more information go to www.homebuyer.co.uk.
