Students rate Brighton and Manchester in England and Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Dundee in Scotland as the best places to be a student, a new study shows.
The survey, which looked at going out, amenities, transport links, and local recreational and education facilities, finds students also rate Liverpool, Newcastle, Sheffield, Cardiff, Swansea, Exeter, Plymouth, Belfast, Oxford and Southampton very highly.
At the other end of the scale, the three lowest rated towns were Salford, Bolton and Bradford.
Ranked firmly in the middle of the table of 78 university towns were established student centres London and Cambridge.
William Berry, of Accommodation for Students, who ran the survey, commented: "This information, available on our website, represents students' real opinions about where they study and is, of course, helpful to students going to university for the first time.
"It is also useful for existing students who are looking to move as it also provides a breakdown of the best areas within cities. For instance, in the city of Manchester the area of Fallowfield comes out as the top place to live for students. For Brighton, it's Bevendean."
Alongside the top towns, the website has also released latest figures on student rent, which is £59 per week on average.
However, rents vary widely across the country, with students in top towns Manchester and Brighton paying an average of £52 and £72 respectively. In London, rents were nearly double the average, at £100 per week, and Cambridge (£83) and Oxford (£79) were also well above average.
