In Grand Designs Abroad Kevin McCloud meets people who not only have ambitious house builds on their mind – but they are uprooting to a different country to do it.

Taking the successful formula of the domestic Grand Designs, showcasing ordinary people trying to build their uniquely styled dream home, it transplants it to the sunnier climes of places such as Italy, France and Spain.

So far Kevin has cast his expert eye over a house in Lot, France, which is built entirely of hay and wood.

During the build Kevin offers advice and support while Mark and Deborah Sampson build their eco-friendly home, though there is also the consideration of whether their homestead vision is too radical for the more conservative tastes of rustic France.

Other builds featured on Grand Designs Abroad include an ambitious restoration of an Olive farm in southern Italy, and an impressive conversion of a grand church in Ireland.
