De Niro puts New York house on market for $14m

Actor Robert De Niro has put his New York townhouse up for sale at 75 times the price he originally paid for it, reports have suggested.
The 19th-century townhouse is located at 14 Saint Luke's Place in the West Village, one of New York’s most desirable and costly neighbourhoods.
The five-storey, 22-foot-wide property between Hudson Street and Seventh Avenue in Manhattan has been placed on the market at a staggering $14 million (approx £8.6 million), the Real Deal website claims.
But the home wasn’t always thought to be worth so much – in fact when De Niro bought the property in 1975 (the same year he won an Oscar for his role in The Godfather, Part II) he paid what now seems the ridiculously low sum of $190,000 (£116,000), claims The Real Estalker blog.
What a lucky focker.
So what does one get for $14m nowadays? Well, this property has five bedrooms, three-and-a-half bathrooms and a private garden.
Real Estalker says that the New York City Tax Man shows the house measures 4,158 square feet and has 12-foot ceilings on the parlour floor.
Not only does the house have superstar owners but the neighbourhood in which it sits is also steeped in the tradition of the movies and television.
Opposite the property on the south side of the street is James J. Walker Park, which was used as a location for key scenes in Raging Bull, in which De Niro starred as boxer Jake LaMotta.
In addition, just four doors away is the house used for the exterior shots of the Huxtable family's home on The Cosby Show, while further along the road is the house where Audrey Hepburn's character lived in Wait Until Dark.
And the man tasked with making De Niro the Godfather of all profits? Raphael, his son – a decision that's hardly surprising, given that he's said to be one of New York's best estate agents. The property is being listed with Prudential Douglas Elliman Real Estate.
