Brits are unique among nationalities in their enthusiasm for buying foreign property, according to the Digital Property Group.
Speaking at A Place in the Sun Live at Birmingham's NEC, the company's head of content Nigel Lewis said there are now around two million British citizens living abroad.
"Obviously that is a mixture of business people working overseas in places like Singapore, but the majority are people who have retired or have holiday homes and live overseas for parts of the year," he commented.
Interest in buying foreign property reached a peak in September, figures from the Worldwide Property Group have revealed, with 72 per cent of people saying they think now is a good time to invest.
The US, Spain and the Caribbean were considered the best places to buy, while Brazil also ranked highly.
It follows research by published by uSwitch last month, which found the best quality of life can be found in France and Spain, while the UK has the worst in Europe.
