In a nutshell.
Clear, easy to follow advice
What's it all about?
A self-help book with a particularly timely edge, Snelling's book aims to take the stress and strain out of selling your Spanish property during this difficult time for the property market.
For anyone brave enough to take the plunge and sell their Spanish property in the current economic crisis, this book promises to give you all the advice you will need along the way, from the first initial 'strategy' to considering buying again.
Laid out like a school text book, 'Crisis' offers quick summaries and checklists for the discerning seller.
Compact and up-to-date, the book covers a range of topics for sellers to pick out what advice they need, always backed up with factual information. Chapters include 'Know your Market', 'Capital Gains Tax' and 'Negotiations for a Sale'.
Who's it by?
Nick Snelling, a property specialist, has a law degree and founded his own construction company in the UK.
His previous books include 'Home Ownership' and 'Taking the Heat', and Nick now works as a management consultant to two Spanish estate agencies. He also writes articles on all aspects of Spain, as well as property.
Contributors are Carolina Just Miro, Mark Paddon, Alberto Diaz Raya Ingenero Superior, Rob Doeven and John Pointon.
As an example.
Property legalities in Spain can be opaque and sometimes very complicated. Occasionally, even you, the owner, may not know of any legal impediments on your property. This is by no means unusual due to a combination of unlicensed building work (particularly under builds!), inaccurate Escrituras and the previous efforts of, at times, shoddy lawyers.
Golden Rule 9
Make sure that there are no legal obstacles in existence before a buyer tries to purchase a property.
What the others say
"No-one said that selling your Spanish property right now is going to be an easy task, but [this book] should help guide you in the right direction." - Spanish Homes magazine.
"'Crisis' is absolutely essential reading for anyone trying to sell their property in Spain. Succinct, clear and full of critically important, practical guidance, 'Crisis' provides advice from real estate industry and marketing professionals who reveal the 'secrets' of selling a property in Spain. This book will provide any seller with an 'edge' and may make the critical difference between selling- or not- in one of the most challenging property markets for decades." - www.thisisspain.com
So is it any good?
Concise and informative 'Crisis' offers anyone confused by the Spanish property market a clear way forward.
The chronological approach Snelling takes to the process of selling is particularly useful, as are the frequent 'Golden Rules' to provide a succinct round-up to what advice he is offering. The summaries are also a useful checklist for when you are actually going through the selling process.
While the book is aimed at those wishing to sell Spanish property, it is also certainly worth a look for anyone considering buying Spanish property, as much of the advice would be better off known from the very start of the purchasing process.
On a more critical note, given the very Spanish bright red and yellow cover, a little more colour in the main body of the book would not have gone amiss, especially for all the diagrams and photographs.
8/10
