Insulation can form part of retrofitting

Retrofitting is a good idea for improving the energy efficiency of homes and fully insulating the house should be one thing householders should do, it has been suggested.
For instance, cavity walls and lofts need to be insulated, commented Andrew Leech, director of the National Home Improvement Council.
His comments came after it emerged that London has been designated a Low Carbon Economic Area (LCEA) for energy-efficient buildings.
The capital has become the seventh area within the UK to be assigned a LCEA status, which is designed to promote energy-efficient constructions.
In the incipient stages, the programme will include a range of projects aligning nearly £90 million of funding already committed by the Regional Development Agencies.
Business minister Ian Lucas welcomed the decision, saying: "London will be a world-leading centre for energy efficient buildings, specialising in retrofitting activity.
"The variety of buildings across London means that there will be a wide range of highly exportable skills."
