Assetz have reported UK investors are being drawn to American urban hubs, where repossessed property can provide homes for low income families.
The company is working with local housing departments and developers in the USA on an investment programme to 'recycle' and refurbish repossessed properties.
The aim is to offer properties for rent in the local community, which Assetz say can return gross yields of over 20 per cent and longer term prospects of capital growth.
Assetz is particularly focusing on Detroit, where they say there is an acute shortage of affordable housing.
Martin Sadler, sales manager of Assetz International, said: "Our time spent on the ground in the USA has shown that this is an investment vehicle that performs on every level.
"It is even environmentally conscious, putting empty, disordered property back into use.
"This particular programme has been employed by the US government since the 1930's and is considered the best in the United States.
"Tenants are not simply placed, they get to choose their home, so they are generally happy to be there. The regulations for occupancy are also quite strict, safeguarding against any unruly tenant behaviour, offering purchasers a well-maintained investment vehicle."
