Property in the Northern Quarter, Manchester

Manchester's city centre is packed with grand buildings, modern and stylish old-fashioned shopping areas, bars, cafes, theatres and more.

Enjoying a reputation as a buzzing place to live in the thick of the independent boutiques and creative businesses is the Northern Quarter, particularly good for those looking for unique refurbished properties and innovative new builds.

Greg Barnard, of estate agent Knight Frank, explained the Northern Quarter is "hip, bit of a bohemian crowd, photographic studios, textile mills, industrial buildings, untouched by the mainstream".

As well as its cultural appeal, the way the area looks has also been wowing residents and film directors alike.

The area stood in for Manhattan in the recent remake of Alfie with Jude Law, and can provide luxury living for those looking to make the most of city centre living and Manchester's nightlife.

Mr Barnard said refurbished Art Deco properties released for sale recently have seen strong demand from buyers - 47 of 70 apartments going within four weeks.

He added buyers could also find smaller "boutique" new-build developments in the Northern Quarter, of ten to 12 apartments.

How much does a property in the Northern Quarter cost?
Flats dominate the sales market in the M1 postcode over the last two years, according to Rightmove, changing hands for an average of £167,529.
