The great thing about going for the vintage look is that it can be totally personalised to your individual style. You can go all out and recreate a 1940s housewife’s dream kitchen or just add a few touches of nostalgia.
Here I have chosen somewhere in between, so if you're unsure where to start these suggestions may help.
To keep some continuity and avoid your room becoming too cluttered, work around one colour to begin with, here we have used red, but you could also try mint green, pink, light blue or yellow.
How to choose your vintage homeware
Look for different feature items of your chosen colour, but don’t restrict yourself, the great thing about the vintage look is that mismatched china, fabrics and prints can work together, so always keep an eye out for interesting pieces to add to your collection.
Search for vintage kitchens on Google and bookmark the pictures that inspire you, you will soon discover the colours and style that you like the most and you can keep an eye out for these when you are shopping. If you can find actual vintage pieces from charity shops or markets then that’s great, but there are many replica pieces that look just as good.
Take inspiration from your Granny’s bungalow by adding details like gingham patterns, flowers, and hand drawn illustrations to achieve the vintage look. Combined with sophisticated products like a Smeg Fridge from Appliances Online your kitchen will be a gem of refined retro, perfect for cooking those buttercream cupcakes.
