Women winning the battle for storage space

When it comes to storage, women are winning the battle for the bottom drawer, according to the results of a study released today.
A staggering eight out of ten UK females say they’re the boss of the bedroom storage situation. A further seven out of ten admit to being ‘storage space invaders’, with their stuff taking up at least 75 per cent of the shared wardrobe, according to a survey by storage specialist SpaceSlide.co.uk.
The study also found that men were often left struggling to find any room for their clothes – with five out of ten admitting they don’t have enough room for all of their possessions.
Despite the fact that women claimed the vast majority of the bedroom's storage space, they also admitted to being the messier sex, with eight out of ten never folding or ironing clothes before putting them away compared with four out of ten men.
But there was a difference between single and married men, with 53 per cent of the former claiming always to fold and hang compared with just 35 per cent of the latter.
Men were found to be conscious of the appearance of their clothes even when they're tucked away in a wardrobe: 67 per cent of the men surveyed said they hung their clothes in a specific order, either according to colour or type of item.
Meanwhile, a huge 85 per cent of women and 48 per cent of men hoard items that no longer fit.
The survey also found that storage is the cause of many an argument – in fact 45 per cent of respondents said it caused regular rows.
SpaceSlide's Jon Gough said: “We all want our own space so it’s not surprising to hear that storage problems cause so many arguments.
“We’re here to help offer some fantastic, affordable solutions – and hopefully prevent too much domestic strife along the way!”
