A nationwide search has been launched to find Britain's first 'solar street', where every roof is suitable for the installation of free photovoltaic (PV) solar panels.
Solar PV systems are estimated to save homeowners as much as 50 per cent - an average of £270 - on their annual household energy bills, and Ecovision, the firm conducting the search, is keen for more consumers to benefit.
The company is hoping to raise awareness of the potential savings available under a government-backed scheme to fit free solar PV equipment to homes up and down the country.
Ecovision believes that over 750,000 properties could benefit from the initiative, equating to possible electricity savings of £200 million a year across the UK as a whole.
Chief executive officer Peter Randall commented: "We are inviting people around the country to submit details of their street and hopefully we will find one that is suitable to become Britain's first all solar street.
"This is an exciting opportunity for one of Britain's towns or streets to become a true green pioneer – while saving [lots of money] at the same time," he added.
Recent research conducted by Ecovision suggested that far more homeowners would embrace solar technology if they were aware of the money-saving scheme.
