Build a New Life in the Country

Build a New Life in the County is Five's premier design programme, following a group of intrepid adventurers as they swap their cramped urban life for a new rural existence.

The focus of the programme is an understanding of how a change of home environment can lead to a change of lifestyle for the individuals involved.

With this assistance of architect George Clark participants seek an idyllic place in either the British or European the countryside, but with twist; the adventures have to design their new homes themselves, renovating dilapidated properties including old barns and country cottages.

Each episode follows a new group as they meet and face the challenges of their project. Monitored by Clark, the program tracks their progress as they use of a host of experts to complete renovation work and begin living the lifestyle they had always dreamed.

The work is undertaken on a budget suited to each group and varies in size and scale.

Previous series have included a barge conversion in Cornwall, renovation of a run-down cottage in Pembrokeshire and attempts to make a deserted farmhouse in Scotland habitable once again.
