Restored to Glory
Restored to Glory is an alternative take on the traditional home makeover show, as it involves grander plans than just renovating a fireplace.
The programme follows the historical restoration of several listed properties by ordinary people, under the watchful eye of a panel of experts.
Presented by architect Charlie Luxton, authenticity and accuracy are key to the success of the projects, which are scrutinised by the likes of the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings and the English Heritage.
Properties that have featured on the show vary in budget and ambition, ranging from one, a £25,000 restoration of a 19th century Cornish cottage, to a £500,000 restoration of the 16th century Biddulph Old Hall in Staffordshire.
As well as giving building and budgeting advice,
Restored to Glory also provides historical backgrounds to the featured properties, through the examination of wills, deeds, maps and previous owners.
It also considers the history of the era alongside the history of the each property to examine the influences on building styles and designs.
Restored to Glory is accompanied by a book written by presenter Charlie Luxton and renovation expert Sally Bevan.
