Vinyl - The ideal flooring choice for bathrooms

Wednesday, 16 March 2011 7:23 PM

When it comes to the sort of flooring that may be used in bathrooms, all manner of substances may be required, but the case for using vinyl can be seen as a very strong one.

Of course, various surfaces can be used, such as carpet - which may be warmer on the feet but has the obvious problems associated with getting wet and having various staining substances - from shower gel to toothpaste - spilled on it.

If you want to have something warm, soft and fluffy to step onto after getting out of the bath and shower, then that is of course what towels or for, while a mobile mat or rug can also be applied. As these are not fixed, it is easier to take them up and clean them.

Underneath this, a waterproof surface makes sense for the obvious reason that this room sees more water than anywhere else in the house.

But being impervious is not the only advantage of bathroom vinyl flooring. The material can be made to resemble all sorts of other materials, such as tile or laminate, so it can offer the qualities of vinyl without compromising on aesthetics. This opens up all sorts of possibilities in terms of colour, tone and pattern to suit any taste.

Furthermore, as various things other than water can be dropped on the floor, it is reassuring to know that vinyl is also easy to clean. After all, many bathrooms also contain a toilet and it is not hard to think of substances that could make an unpleasant mess on any surface they cannot be easily removed from. And by keeping floors clean, germs can be kept away from others using the same room.

As well as this, good bathroom lino flooring will be quite durable and not suffer from frequent scratches. Another advantage is that it is relatively warm - not essential in summer but vital on cold winter days - and is quite easy on the feet, which is good news at any time.

Each and every one of these may be regarded as a good reason for having vinyl bathroom flooring.
