Rugs and flooring - a crucial partnership

If you're keen to put that finishing touch to your home, have you considered the role that rugs can play?

Not only can they add an element of warmth underneath your foot - something that may be important if you've got laminate flooring for example - but you should be sure that they aesthetically complement the rest of your flooring, no matter if it is crafted from vinyl or solid wood.

Rugs can not only help to bring out the colours in the rest of your flooring but also show key points to the rest of your decor, so you should be sure to give careful consideration to the type of rug you select.

When considering what materials rugs are crafted from you may well find that wool quickly springs to mind. Of course, this fabric comes from sheep - perfect if you're after an organic rug to match your eco-friendly flooring - and is well-known for its warm and versatile properties.

Selecting a wool rug can be a perfect match if you've already got laminate flooring laid down. As rugs that are silky both in terms of look and feel, you could find it is the ideal accompaniment to the glossy appearance of laminate floors.

Alternatively, you may find that wool rugs that are tufted in appearance or made from 100 per cent wool pile make for a more suitable match.

However, modern rugs can be made from a variety of other materials including polypropylene and acrylic pile, you should be sure to find one which suits your flooring.

You may also find rugs are an ideal flooring choice if you have children. With a number of colourful designs and bright patterns, your kids are sure to love having a fun on such a piece of furniture, whether they're reading, watching television or playing a board game.

Of course as kids grow up their interests and tastes are bound to change. But while you may be unlikely to constantly change the flooring as they get older, by investing in new rugs you can help them to reflect their - hopefully - growing maturity.

Whatever their age, you should be sure that rugs and flooring are constantly in sync.
