Choosing the perfect bedroom carpet

Wednesday, 16 March 2011 7:23 PM

The bedroom is the room in your house that you can really put your stamp on in a way that reflects your personal sense of style - which means that choosing carpets for it can be something of a daunting task.

Today, there is just so much to choose from when it comes to bedroom carpet. An extremely important factor is how the carpet feels underfoot. One of the main functions of a bedroom is to create an atmosphere in which you can simply relax and unwind and comfort is an important part of this, so you will want to choose a carpet that is luxuriously thick and soft.

You will also want to take the time to choose a carpet that matches the current decor of your bedroom, but that will also work well with a variety of different shades and colours, meaning that you will be better able to update your room whenever the mood takes you.

A deep red or brown could give your room a real feeling of warmth and cosiness, while a pale blue could help make it feel cooler and more airy. Lighter shades are perfect for creating a sense of space, while opting for something neutral will mean that you never need to replace it simply to fit in with a new colour palette.

Meanwhile, patterns could be great if you are keen to keep the rest of the room simple, with plain walls in one block colour. You could also choose a design that reflects your other soft furnishings, such as your curtains and bedding.

If you are after a carpet that is durable then you may wish to choose one made from synthetic fibres as these will last a long time. This could also be an affordable option that offers you a variety of patterns, styles and lengths to choose from.

You will also need to select the fibre that's right for you, whether it is manmade, 100 per cent wool, wool-mix or natural, along with the thickness you prefer.

Natural carpets are a favourite with many homeowners due to their truly sumptuous feel - you will find that your feet sink into them. If you are worried about health issues then 100 per cent wool is a great choice for you as the material is non-allergenic and non-toxic. You will also find that a wool carpet is far more affordable than you may think - particularly if you compare it to alternative coverings, such as hardwood.

So give your bedroom a new lease of life that lets you relax in luxury and invest in a new carpet.
