Where are the best areas for renting in London?

There is an abundance of flats in London, so no matter what your budget or your needs, you will find a flat that ticks all of your boxes.

Property in the capital is among the most expensive in the world and with the current economic climate making it difficult for many people to buy their own place, increasing numbers have opted to rent.

If you fall into this category, there are some fantastic London houses to rent in London while you put money aside for a deposit.

Different people have different needs when it comes to where to live and it is important to weigh up exactly what you require from the property and the area it is in. Doing this will make the process of finding London property for rent much easier.

North/North-west London

North London is home to some of the most attractive areas in the capital.

On the one side, you can choose to live in the leafy suburbs of Highgate and Archway, which offer a more peaceful environment than some other parts of London. On the other side, the trendy Notting Hill and Camden areas offer a more vibrant living experience if that is what you are looking for.

These areas are filled with trendy bars and restaurants and boast a thriving social scene.

Bear in mind that these areas are also expensive and property in the region is in high demand, so if cost is a major factor you may benefit from looking somewhere else.

South/South-west

South London property tends to be cheaper than North London property and there are some up-and-coming areas that may appeal to you.

Areas such as Tooting, Mitcham and Wimbledon offer some very affordable housing and have plenty going on in the way of bars, restaurants and other social venues.

If you are willing to pay more, you could rent a flat in Wandsworth, Clapham, Balham or Battersea. These areas are highly sought after and boast excellent transport links along with parks, restaurants and various leisure facilities.

Earl's Court, Putney and Fulham are also places where some very attractive property can be found.

West London

West London is home to some fantastic pubs and affordable accommodation. Areas such as Hammersmith and Shepherd's Bush boast excellent shopping facilities and have plenty going on in the way of entertainment.

Acton is another area you may wish to consider. It has good transport links and some very appealing property.

If money is no object, Chelsea is an area that will appeal to you. This is one of the most sought-after places in the capital, with prices to reflect this. Kensington is also a place that may interest you.

East London

East London has in the past been the cheapest region to rent property in, however, with major regeneration underway ahead of the Olympics, prices are starting to rise.

However, there are still lots of affordable places, including Hackney, Bow, West Ham and Stratford.

You also have trendy areas such as Shoreditch which appeal to artistic types and there is plenty in the way of culture to be consumed in this part of the capital.

London is a large and diverse city with an international reputation rivalled only by New York. Whether you want a cheap and cheerful place to live or a place in a more upmarket part of town, you will find it in London.
