Q&A: How do I get the spa look in my bathroom?

Q: "I'm redoing my bathroom. How can I get the 'spa look' and what sort of products and finishes should I go for?"
Charlotte, Salcombe
A: “The hotel-inspired or spa-like bathroom is big news at the moment, as more and more of us look to create a sense of luxury and relaxation in our bathroom, making it somewhere we can retreat to after a long day.
“The key to achieving this look is in the sanitaryware you choose. Most hotel bathrooms opt for wall-hung sanitaryware, as it makes the space look bigger and helps to create a luxurious feeling, so that’s a good place to start.
“Also, think about how you could use your choice of sanitaryware to add one or two statement pieces, perhaps by including an unusual-shaped or luxuriously deep bathtub or extra-wide sink if space allows. His-and-hers twin basins are another effective way of creating that hotel-inspired look.
“Another option worth considering is to install a frameless glass shower screen and low-level shower tray rather than a full enclosure. Not only does this open up the space, it also enables you to create a wet-room effect while keeping a separate dry area without the need for lots of extra drainage.
“The other thing to consider is storage space: buy furniture that makes the most of the space available to help keep the bathroom clutter-free so you really can relax.”
